How the Timeline Works
Each column is a nation, and each card is a twelve-year period in that nation's history. Years run down the left side, so cards at the same height happened at the same time.
A card shows its years, its title, and the events that open and close the period. When a card's title is underlined, click it to read the full article.
A gold Founds banner marks the card where a nation's story begins.
Lines connect a period to the periods it leads to, within one nation or across to another. Each line takes the color of the nation it starts from, and its dot marks the card it leads to.
Hover over a line to highlight it and the two cards it joins. Click a line to keep it highlighted, drawn over any cards it crosses while the rest fade, and see how many years separate the two periods. Double-click a line to jump to the card at its dot.
Click a card (anywhere but its title) to highlight every line connected to it and the cards at the other ends. Click the card again, or anywhere else, to clear it.
Drag or swipe anywhere on the timeline to move around. The nation names and years stay pinned to the edges of the screen as you go.
Use the + and − buttons at the bottom right to zoom in and out, and the percentage button to return to the standard view.
